First produced by TCT when we had no home in 1942 the again in the Warehouse theatre in 1995, Arsenic and Old Lace is one of America’s most beloved plays. We meet the charming and innocent Brewster sisters. Two ladies who run a boarding house upstairs and populate their cellar with the remains of socially and religiously “acceptable” roomers; that is after they poison them with elderberry wine. Add to this the antics of their brother who thinks he is Teddy Roosevelt; and the activities of the other brother, Jonathan a malicious killer on the loose, and you have the elements of a divinely inspired comedy. Arsenic and Old Lace is the perfect way to launch a celebratory season.
